Course Overview Copy

Enrollment in Teaching Children Effectively Level 2 demonstrates your deep concern for children and their spiritual well-being. Before we begin, let’s review the requirements necessary for the successful completion of TCE Level 2. We will also discuss the rationale and examine the expected learning outcomes.

Course Requirements

  • Prerequisite – Each student enrolled in CM203 Teaching Children Effectively Level 2 must have successfully completed all requirements for the CM202 Teaching Children Effectively Level 1 course.
Additional experience teaching in a Good News Club® will make TCE Level 2 more relevant.
  • Proctor – Two teaching practicums (TCE Level 2 growth Bible lesson and a missions segment) designed to provide practice in implementing the teaching methods learned are required before actually teaching children.
A proctor will be needed to observe these two practicums. The CMI Online Administrator will help find a proctor for you.
  • Location for Real-World Teaching Assignments – This course requires five teaching sessions with children in an approved classroom setting using the methods presented. You must have a location available where you can teach children during this twelve-week course. Your proctor can help you find a location to teach during the course.

Rationale

Someone has said, “It takes fifteen minutes to evangelize a child, two minutes to give the invitation, ten minutes to counsel him, and eighty years to lead him in spiritual growth.” Saved children need to grow in their relationship with God and in their relationships with others. Only as the children’s worker understands his role in this ongoing spiritual teaching-learning process, can he begin to guide saved children in a gradual, balanced experience of spiritual growth which will result in changed behavior. To be more effective as “workers together with God,” each teacher should know 1) how changes in conduct take place; 2) how to plan and write effective objectives for his Bible lessons; and 3) how to apply biblical truth in a clear, practical way to the life of the child according to the child’s needs.

The purpose of this unique course is fourfold: to provide you with principles and methods for effective teaching; to equip you with the “practical how-to” of discipling children; to increase your realization of the urgency of the task of discipleship; and to lead you to depend on the Holy Spirit as you guide children in their spiritual walk.

Instructional Methods

Video class sessions recorded on campus at the Children’s Ministries Institute® will include lectures, class discussions, role plays, demonstrations, and more. As an online student, you will view these class sessions and interact with your online instructor and classmates through forum discussions and optional live chat sessions. Corrective learning opportunities will be offered through written assignments submitted through the CMI Online course site. Feedback from your proctor following your practicum experiences will help to strengthen your skills as you learn new methodologies. Real-world teaching experiences will provide interactive opportunities for you to utilize your newly gained teaching skills with children.

Learning Outcomes

By the conclusion of this course the student will:

  • Prepare and present a missions segment on a child’s level that is evaluated by a proctor.
  • Prepare and present a growth Bible lesson, applying the principles and steps presented in this course. This lesson will be evaluated by a proctor.
  • Present a growth Bible lesson to children in an approved real-world setting.
