Real-world Observation Interviews

In this course, you will conduct a total of nine interviews with children. These real-world interviews will enable you to immediately observe the characteristics and behavior of children that you learned about during the course. You will interview three children in the 3-5 age group, three children in the 6-9 age group, and three young people in the 10-13 age group. The questionnaires below are to be used for your interviews. The interviews may be conducted in person, or by telephone, Zoom, Skype, or some other media type. During Week 1 of the course, you will interview three children in the 3-5 age range using the appropriate questionnaire. In Week 2 of the course, you will interview three children in the 6-9 age range. In Week 3, you will interview three young people in the 10-13 age range. The downloadable, fillable interview questionnaires for each age group are provided below. Be sure to provide parents with a copy of the questionnaire and secure parental permission before conducting these interviews. Parents may opt-out of any question they would rather their child not be asked during the interview. (Be sure to add a comment on the questionnaire explaining that the opt-out question was not included in the interview.) The child may also opt-out of specific questions or stop the interview at any time. No more than five questions may be omitted for the interview to be considered complete. If six or more questions are skipped due to the parent or child opting out, another interview will need to be conducted to meet the assignment requirement.

Please obtain parental permission for your real-world interview observations before the course begins so that you will be able to complete your assignments on time.
